There is a moment every diver knows. The moment when the noise of the world fades away and only the rhythmic sound of one's own breathing can be heard.
It's the moment when you stop sinking or rising and simply float. Completely weightless, at one with the blue universe that surrounds us. This state isn't magic – it's the result of skill, practice, and a deep understanding of one of the most fundamental skills in our sport – perfect buoyancy control.
In over twenty years of actively diving beneath the surface, I have experienced countless dives in a wide variety of environments. From colorful coral reefs to the silent, challenging world of caves, which I am permitted to explore as a certified cave diver.
Throughout all these adventures, one skill has always been key to safety, efficiency, and pure enjoyment: control over one's own buoyancy. I've seen divers struggling with too much weight, wasting air unnecessarily, and more preoccupied with their equipment than with the beauty around them. And I've witnessed the transformation as they learned to float with minimal effort, perfected their body position in the water, and thereby became confident and environmentally conscious observers of the underwater world.
This book is the essence of my experience. It's a guide that not only explains the physical principles but, above all, provides you with tried-and-tested techniques. Together, we'll perform the correct weight check, learn the intricacies of breath control, and understand how equipment choice affects our position in the water.
Whether you're just starting your first dives or are already an experienced diver looking to refine your skills, this book is designed to be your companion on the path to masterful buoyancy control. Only when we overcome the struggle can we truly immerse ourselves and fully enjoy the freedom of weightlessness. I wish you consistently good air and unforgettable, weightless moments underwater.
